Episode 58 – Still Alive & Well

noizefaktoryThis week we lost a true legend, one of a kind talent, a pioneer, Mr. Johnny Winter.  One of the premier blues guitarists of the century, and one who not only had the respect of the originators, but of his peers, and all of those who followed.  The proof is in the decades of music, the albums he produced with Muddy Waters, the countless guest appearances he made on other artists recordings, and the fact that as his 70th birthday came and went earlier this year, that Johnny Winter was making new music, releasing archival recordings, and the subject of a soon to be released documentary.  Not to mention the number of artists that have covered his songs, or the fact that his protege Rick Derringer is revered as one of the great guitarists of the 70’s rock scene, and continues to make music to this day.

This weeks show is a tribute to Johnny Winter, 2 hours of amazing recordings, live and studio, including a cut from his yet to be released album Step Back, which features guest appearances from Ben Harper, Eric Clapton, Paul Nelson, Brian Setzer, Billy Gibbons, Joe Bonamassa, Jason Ricci, Leslie West, Joe Perry, and Dr. John.

I hope that this show is something that everyone can enjoy, whether you are new to Johnny Winter, or a life long fan.  I leant heavily on the 70’s era stuff, and didn’t even scratch the surface of Johnny’s recordings.  Sit back and enjoy the music.  A man that survived more than most people could ever dream of enduring, and a musician whose talent is hard to match.

Thank you Johnny Winter for all the music, and even though you have left us, your music ensures you are “Still Alive & Well”.
